With the rapid growth of the fast-food and delivery industries, packaging for high-fat foods like hamburgers must provide excellent grease and moisture resistance. Traditional solutions often rely on plastic laminates or PFAS-based coatings, which raise concerns about environmental persistence, recyclability, and food safety.

To address these challenges, a new packaging solution was developed using food-grade wax coatings that are grease-resistant, water-repellent, biodegradable, and safe for direct food contact.


Solution: Wax-Coated Food Packaging
1. Material Structure:
  • Substrate: Virgin wood pulp paper, food-grade certified (FDA, EU, GB standards)
  • Coating: Double-sided, food-grade wax blend (bio-based solid wax + waterborne polymer emulsion)
    • Properties: Water-repellent, grease-resistant, non-stick, heat-resistant up to 180°C
2. Product Formats:
  • Hamburger wrapper: 30 gsm paper, grease resistance level ≥ 5 (KIT test)
  • Hamburger box: Rigid paperboard with inner wax coating, printable outer surface
  • Custom sizes and branding available; supports 6-color water-based printing
Property Performance Result
Grease Resistance ≥ 30 minutes (ASTM F119)
Water Resistance Contact angle ≥ 110° (highly hydrophobic)
Food Safety No PFAS, no fluorescent agents, no mineral oil
Biodegradability Compostable and repulpable
Heat Resistance Safe for hot food contact up to 180°C
